Carl B. Zacharia
Founding Partner
Biography
Carl B. Zacharia is a founding partner of Zacharia Frey PLLC, headquartered in Bonita Springs, Florida. He is also the founding partner of Zacharia Brown, P.C., with offices in Western Pennsylvania. Carl has been actively licensed as an attorney in Florida since 1994 and in Pennsylvania since 1993.
Carl was among the first attorneys in the country to begin practicing elder law - at a time when the term itself had only just been coined. His early office sat in a community with a large base of elderly residents, and families kept calling with the same worry: how could they avoid losing everything they had built to a nursing home stay? Carl set out to understand the programs and rules that shaped long-term care, and over the past thirty years he has guided thousands of families through those decisions.
Carl has extensive experience in both state and federal court systems. He received his undergraduate degree from Washington and Jefferson College and his law degree from Duquesne University School of Law, where he was a published member and associate editor of the Duquesne Law Review. Carl is an extensive and frequent lecturer on estate planning and elder law topics, and has argued numerous medical assistance cases before state and federal appellate courts, including a federal court of appeals in Washington, D.C.
Carl is the author of Good Long Term Care: How to Find It, Get It and Pay for It, available on Amazon. The book explains, in plain language, the programs and systems available to families when a loved one needs long-term care - a practical guide for anyone navigating the long-term care maze.
Carl has been named to Super Lawyers every year since 2010 - sixteen consecutive years of peer recognition. He is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), the Pennsylvania Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, The Academy of Florida Elder Law Attorneys, and The Florida Bar.
Carl is also the developer of online platforms built specifically for estate planning and elder law families, including MedicaidInAMinute.com and MyLifeFolio.com - tools he created to extend his firm's reach and help families long before, and long after, they ever walk into a law office.
In Clients' Words
“It's not often that a person goes beyond what is expected, but in this case that's what happened. Carl Zacharia was assigned as the legal rep for my wife's Medicaid application and as the legal aide for the guardianship process. I had plenty of questions and he guided me through the process. His knowledge of the Medicaid system and the guardianship process was a lifesaver. He was quick to respond either by phone or email to anything I had a concern about, and continuously kept me updated. He guided me through the guardianship process, and thanks to him my wife is now covered by Medicaid. I have talked to him many times by phone and have met him. It's nice to meet someone as concerned about his clients as he is. He was easy to talk to and always attentive to anything concerning the cases. A very hearty thank you, Carl. You will never know how much your help meant to me and my son, and the peace of mind it has brought us. THANK YOU AGAIN.”
Honest!
“If you have a parent that requires a skilled nursing facility, Zacharia and Brown offer an array of guidance and expertise through the entire process. Carl is honest, and goes above and beyond to ensure that your loved ones are able to comfortably afford the costs associated with skilled nursing. Do not try to tackle this already difficult time alone. My only regret is that we did not meet with Carl sooner.”
